 Stone of Jordan, or commonly referred to as an "SoJ", is a unique ring, and is quite possibly the most classic item in Diablo 2.

It had two things going for it: by itself it is a very useful item, and it has an incredibly low drop-rate, and thus both factors combined made it a valuable currency for traders.

These two mods are of little value when your character reaches a reasonably high-level.
Stone of Jordans being used to summon Unique Diablo:
Stone of Jordans are used in the process of spawning Uber Diablo, which is the only unique monster from which you can acquire the Annihilus, a unique charm.
When a certain number of Stone of Jordans have been sold to the in-game merchants on a particular server, the whole screen will shake, accompanied by this message being displayeddiablo 3 cd key on-screen "Diablo Walks the Earth". Uber Diablo will spawn in every Hell difficulty game running on that server (Ladder or Non-Ladder).
Summary:
The Stone of Jordan is a popular ring for casters due to its low level requirement, its +1 to all Skills mod, and the large bonus it offers to the caster's Mana.
Despite it being knocked off by high-level Runes as the favored currency in Diablo 2, the Stone of Jordan is still a very useful item in its own right, and if you find one, you can count your lucky stars and rest assured that you have in your possession a top-quality ring.
Useful Hint: Most players go on Nightmare Andariel farms, as it is thought to the quickest way to finding a Stone of Jordan due to optimal drop-rate conditions and Andariel herself being relatively easy to defeat.
